About
A rescue with no building, on purpose.
Save dogs and cats at risk of euthanasia, and give them the medical care, emotional rehabilitation, foster homes, and adoption placement they need.
What we do
The work, described honestly
New Hope Animal Rescue NFP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving Austin and Central Texas. We pull dogs and cats out of shelters where they are at risk of being euthanized — usually for space, often for a medical problem that is entirely treatable, sometimes just because they stopped showing well in a kennel.
We are not a shelter. There is no facility to walk into and no row of kennels. Every animal in our care lives in a volunteer’s home, which is both the point and the limit: the number of animals we can take is exactly the number of foster homes we have that week.
Medical care first
Most of the animals we take need something before they need an adopter. Heartworm treatment. Orthopedic surgery. A course of medication that runs longer than a shelter can hold a kennel open for. We commit to that care up front, which is why donations are not a nice-to-have here.
And the part nobody budgets for
A dog who has been in a shelter long enough often arrives shut down — not aggressive, just gone. There is no treatment protocol for that. What works is weeks in a quiet house with somebody who does not need anything from them, until one day they come out from under the bed. That is what a foster home does that a facility structurally cannot.
Then adoption
Applications, vet and personal references, a meet-and-greet, and a home visit. It is slower than a pet store and that is the entire design. Most of these animals have already been given up on once.
And upstream of all of it
Reduce shelter overcrowding through community education about spaying and neutering. Every animal that is never born is an animal that never needs us.
Help
What actually moves the needle
Foster
The binding constraint. One more foster home is one more animal off a euthanasia list this week.
Apply to foster →Adopt
Every adoption frees a foster home, which frees a slot at the shelter, which frees another animal.
Meet the animals →Give
Medical care is committed before an adopter exists. Recurring gifts are what let us commit at all.
